Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS10 Review

The new Panasonic Lumix ZS10 is the successor to last year’s very popular ZS7. Though the ZS7 was a best seller, it had a few shortcomings that consumers took notice of and spoke up about what they thought it needed improvement-wise. Panasonic listened and evidently tailored the ZS10 to meet those expectations. How does the ZS10 differ from its illustrious predecessor? The ZS7 was a 12 megapixel digicam, while the ZS10 boasts 15 megapixel maximum resolution. The ZS7 featured a 12x (25mm-300mm equivalent) Leica zoom, while the ZS10 features a 16x (24-384mm equivalent) Leica zoom.

Sony Bloggie 3D And Cyber-shot WX10 Hands On

The Modern 3D era began in 2004 with animated feature The Polar Express, according to Buzz Hays, who produced many successful 3D movies including Beowulf and Monster House, and others.

In the seven years since then, 3D imaging technology has migrated from the massive Hollywood rigs and post production processes to consumer tech, notably the Sony Handycam HDR-TD10 and, quite surprisingly, the entry-level Sony Cyber-shot and Bloggie line.

Sony Handycam HDR-TD10 First Look

Sony hopes the Handycam HDR-TD10 ushers in a new era of camcorders as it will be the company’s first fully capable 3D consumer device. While Sony debuted the TD10 at CES in January, it is not set to launch until late in Q2, but DigitalCameraReview received extensive hands-on time with the 3D Handycam, which Sony claims are the very first production units to roll off the line.

While we will reserve judgment for our full review when the device ships, we can safely say that 3D shooting will present a new set of challenges, and Sony has much work to do in educating consumers on the ins and outs of 3D videography.

Panasonic HDC-SD80 HD Camcorder Review

Feature migration is common in consumer tech. Features only found on the high-end devices last year are now available on the mid-range offerings. And next year, you’ll see them on entry-level devices.

Panasonic HDC-SD80With that in mind, Panasonic is in a good spot. We loved last year’s prosumer-level TM700. And at CES 2011, Panasonic rolled out a slate of less expensive offerings promising many of the same menu and shooting options, including Intelligent Zoom (digital zoom with optical zoom quality), facial recognition, and a host of manual picture controls.

Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS First Look

Another day, another touch screen camera. The Canon PowerShot ELPH 500 HS was rolled out in early February – about the time when we used to go to that one trade show – with an “HS” designation and a big 3.2-inch touch screen. That HS stands for High Sensitivity. Translated from Canon-ese, that means the ELPH 500 has a backside-illuminated CMOS sensor (12.1 megapixels in this case) and a DIGIC 4 processor. We first saw this technology in the PowerShot SD4000 with several models following since then.

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH27 Review

The Panasonic Lumix DMC-FH27 (also known as the FS37) is Panasonic’s top-of-the-line “Stylish Casual” compact point-and-shoot digital camera. Panasonic’s small cameras have not been known for their sense of style, though Panasonic is trying to change that with some of its recent releases (the “FP” series and the “S” series). While the FH27 is not what most would consider particularly stylish, it’s not necessarily a bad thing, as not everyone desires a camera that is a fashion statement. I did find the camera to be attractive, however.

Spider Black Widow Holster Review

*Editor’s Note: We published a version of this review using a prototype model of the Black Widow Holster. Spider has since made some adjustments to the design and sent us a revised, fully-functional and production ready unit. Our review has been edited to reflect these design enhancements.

Lugging around a heavy DSLR or prosumer camera can be a cumbersome task, especially if you are dealing with other activities at the same time. Outside of camera straps, few options have existed to help with this problem. That is until the Spider camera holster system. In this review, we take a look at the new Black Widow Holster, aimed at the average Joe instead of the professional photographer.

Canon PowerShot A3300 IS Review

At first glance Canon’s new PowerShot A3300 IS doesn’t look like the culmination of a century and a half of photographic progress, but it is. During the 19th century photographers captured images on large and very delicate glass plates loaded (one at a time) into very slow tripod mounted view cameras and viewed upside down under a dark hood before being manually exposed. When William Henry Jackson photographed Yellowstone National Park in the early 1870′s he needed an enclosed wagon drawn by two mules to carry his photographic gear and portable darkroom.
